Reconciliation
The Sacrament of Reconciliation (aka, Penance or Confession) is offered at St. Clare every Thursday from 6:00-7:00 pm.
The Sacrament of Penance and Reconciliation includes the following:
Confession: I Did It. We admit we did wrong by examining our conscience and identifying our sins. (See the Guidance section, below, for resources on examining one's conscience.)
Contrition: I Am Sorry. We express sincere sorrow for our sins, which is more an act of the will, a choice, than a feeling.
Petition: Forgive Me. We name the sins out loud to the priest and receive Absolution, that is, we are set free from the bonds of sin by the priest through the words of absolution..
Satisfaction: I Will Make Up For It. The priest assigns a penance to do, which we should fulfill soon after the confession ends.
Resolution: I Will Never Do It Again. We firmly decide not to commit the sin again, to the best of our ability. This is called a "firm purpose of amendment," and it includes avoiding the "near occasion" of sin, which is any situation or person that is likely to lead us into sin.
